Annexation & peace terms

What you can demand at the peace table depends on two things: how badly you're winning, and how high the war has escalated.

How it works

peaceDeals() offers each term a minimum war score (from your perspective) plus, for the harsher ones, a minimum war level. White peace and surrender are always available; reparations need +30; territory (a province) needs +60 and at least a Border war (Lv2); a protectorate needs +75 and a Limited war (Lv4); subjugation needs +90 and Full-scale war (Lv5); and outright colonization needs +115 and Total war (Lv6).

War score reaches terms at WAR_END (100), but the toughest deals demand more than a bare victory — you need to escalate the conflict, not just win it. Note the war score is clamped at ±150, so scores above 100 are exactly what unlock subjugation and colonization.

Full annexation — erasing a country entirely — is deliberately rare. The overwhelm gate requires attack power ≥ defend power × 4.0, the target under 12M population and under 25% of your own, you've annexed fewer than 2 nations, and the target holds no nukes. AI conquerors also face a 4-year cooldown between annexations; otherwise a breakthrough just takes territory instead of the whole state.

Formulas

Peace-term thresholds
reparations 30 · province 60 (Lv2) · protectorate 75 (Lv4) · subjugate 90 (Lv5) · colony 115 (Lv6)
Annexation gate
attackPow ≥ defendPow × 4.0 AND pop < 12M AND pop < 0.25 × yours AND nukes = 0 AND conquests < 2

How to play

  • Match your ambition to your score: demanding a province needs +60, but a vassal needs +90 and a full-scale war behind it.
  • The harshest terms require both a high score and a high war level — escalate deliberately if you're aiming for subjugation or colony.
  • Full annexation only works on small (<12M), non-nuclear states you outpower 4-to-1; against larger foes, take territory instead.
  • Push your war score past 100 (it caps at 150) to unlock subjugation and colonization above the basic victory threshold.
